Default ARB Bumper Install help!

Hey all, just got around to installing my ARB winch bumper on my 2003 D2, and I was going along just fine until we tried putting on the new bumper mounts, which was alright until we read in the instructions that I had to install the recover point, which in the instructions looks like this:

However the only thing that looks remotely the same is this, and one was on each side with the factory bumper and brush guard:

Which does not fit on the new ARB mounts at all, leaving my D2 looking like this:

Size: 34.2 KB

And my garage looking like this:

Size: 49.2 KB

Which means an unhappy wife!

Do any of you who have installed the ARB bumper had this similar issue? Is it because I have the factory brush bar? Its not a huge issue, as I dont need to drive in the next two days, but I would like to get the new ARB bumper installed instead of having to put the old one back on.

i can't really see what model ARB you have. but it should bolt thru the 2 bolts that you circled in the top picture. you didnt have to take the lights and grill out though... use a floor jack to hold it in place while you slip some 1/2" grade 8 hardware thru.

Take off the plastic air damn. you do not need it. you also do not need the recovery points. Your ARB is a recovery point. I put the mounting brackets on first. keeping the bolts loose, then mount the bumper to the mounts... Using one or 2 floor or bottle jacks to support the bumper if you have an extra set of hands it can help as well. line up the bumper and tighten the bolts. it should not take you more than about an hour. to put it on.

oh and in truth those are not recovery points as much as they are tie down points in the event you need to flatbed your truck. IMHO.

Ditch the oem tow eye and the plastic air dam. Once all the stuff is out of the way the ARB should slide straight in.

Why'd you remove the headlights to do a bumper install? Also, ARB sent me a Defender bumper so I'm not surprised they screwed up again.

The lights are removed for a separate project. And the grill is out for the Saudi style grill conversion...The bumper is for sure a 03 D2 bumper, all the serial numbers were correct and came with all the appropriate instructions...

My 03 had the tie down pictured in the ARB instructions. Maybe, like you said, it was removed when installing the brush guard.

The 03-04 style ARB doesn't actually have any recovery points, and they suggest you re-use that one. I plan to add some better ones in the near future.

I ended up getting some extra washers to offset the parts that would have been there, and it seems to work pretty well. Thanks for the help!
