Default ARB/TJM/etc Front Bumper for Daily Driving

Hey folks,

Just had someone hit my front bumper. The insurance will give me the money to get a new genuine LR one, but I'm also wondering about using this as an opportunity to upgrade to an aftermarket one like an ARB or TJM, etc.

My reservation is that these seem to be kind of overkill for the normal "daily driver" use that the truck gets. Seems like any steel bull bar for the front requires upgrading springs and shocks to handle the extra weight, and even with that, the front will nose dive over time.

Any thoughts on this? I'm leaning towards just going with the factory one again, but figured I'd get some opinions before making a decision.

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

If it were me, I'd love to have an ARB. But ive also got a lift. But consider lifting the Disco anyway. You'll get a better ride and more capable truck. Have you ever replaced the stocks shocks and springs?

Replaced the shocks a couple of years ago with some nice Bilsteins. Springs are currently the stock springs. Thanks for the note back!

10 year old springs with 100k miles are beat. It is time for new ones. If you do new front springs ($150) and install an ARB you will be good to go.

Not really seeing the issue here. The added weight of the bumper isn't going to affect it's daily driver abilities.

The added weight actually enhances drivability when the proper springs are fitted, cornering without the bumper sucked.

Thanks everyone, this is really great information. If I do end up going ARB, will a "2003-2004" ARB bumper with the fog lights fit a 2002 Disco? I know I'll have to get the 2004 fog lights to fit in the bumper, but I'm wondering more about mounting points etc...

Again thanks for the input - more thoughts are welcome.

Yes, it'll fit, but the 99-02 ARB is better since the 03-04 does not have D-ring shackles on it.

Oh OK - I didn't know that. Then you just mount up some driving lights and call it a day?
