1. Ensure that gearbox is cool. Apply handbrake and securely chock front and rear wheels.
2. Place a suitable container beneath gearbox.
3. Clean area around oil filler/level and drain plugs.

Be sure to have the paramedics standing by so they can help you when you run over yourself!!!! I am not laying under the car while the gearshift is run through the gears, even if the other person is holding down the brake..... momma didn't raise no fools!!

I look at what these Discos can do off road, then ask myself "will a wheel chock really keep the Disco from moving?"

I hope we aren't scaring sforb into not doing this job. lol
I am sure many other members have done this without being run over... just make sure your wife/gf/bf/significant other isn't upset with you when they help out.
OR....
We build a wall on opposite ends of the Rover out of 2ft thick concrete up to the bumpers and then change the ATF... would you do it then?

Don't do #14, while servicing the tranny.
How many miles on the 99D2? If the oil is real dirty, consider do a second drain and refill to get as much of the old burned fluid out of the system.

You MUST shift through ALL the gears after you fill the trans to get the fluid flowing into all the nooks and crannies, but do NOT do it while under the truck.
When the shop does it the guy under the truck is in a pit or the truck is on a lift.
Run it through all the gears, THEN crawl back under the truck.
The is a one man job.
