Default ATF Change or Flush?????

Hello All,

My vehicle is a 2000LR DII with around 75000 miles on it. Been slowly replacing all fluids and have got to the tranny and not sure what to do... Been reading alot of suggestions, just not sure which direction to go. Presently having no issues with the tranny, not sure when or if the previous owner ever had the tranny serviced.

Should I have it flushed with filter replacement?
Should I just drain and re-fill?
Concerns with the mileage/filter thing? (60k filter and fluid)

Any thoughts are appreciated?

Reagards,

Nick

The D2 only requires a filter change one time, at 30K I think. Me personally, I would just drain and fill, then do it again in a week. I have cut my intervals for changes in half but only drain what will come out of the pan. You have to drop the crossmember to get the pan off to change the filter, and a proper flush is the only way to get all of the fluid changed. I am sure you have read how mony people don't like flushes, especially not knowing the history.

Yea all the reading I have done about the flush doesn't sit well with me. Going to try to call the dealer the DII was purchased from and see if they have any history, as I'am the second owner should be easy if they cooperate.

Thanks!

Not knowing if mine had ever been done either, I chose to go ahead with a filter change and then refill with mobil 1 ATF. No flushing, cause I too had heard about horror stories about problems happening after flushing trannys.

Haven't had any adverse effects, and it was done last automn.

Darover, You did the right thing, except that you only replaced about 40% or so of the old fluid, I would do it again in another 10K or so to get a higher % of synthetic in your tranny.

Well called the original dealer in Virginia today. Very helpful and had all of the service records for my vehicle. Only problem is they can read everything to me but won't print and send a copy, oh well. Looks like she was maintained ok right up till the head gasket went arount 70k miles, owner declined the repair, the engine went...thats where I come in

Anyway no service shown on the tranny, so I will have the filter changed and fluid replaced.
Deal recomended NOT to havea flush done!
Would anyone recomend Amsoil additive?
My tranny is not slipping and shifts smooth, so not sure on the additive as it says it fixes problems?

Thanks!
