Default Auto lock for doors

My owner's manual says that it is possible for the door locks to be programmed to auto lock when put in drive. My question is, is this something I can make it do myself, or will I have to take it to the dealer?

Must have the dealer or a shop with the appropriate scanner reset your ECU.

Ok, thanks. That's what I was afraid of.

Its not a "reset" as such, its a configurable option in the BCU (body control unit). Mine has it switched on, I like the feature. A would think dealer should only charge 1/2 labour MAX to do it, takes mins to do.

Do/will the doors auto unlock if a airbag is deployed?

When an impact is sensed, the inertia switch trips, cutting fuel and sends a signal to the bcu to unlock all doors, so yes, they should.

I am assuming that this is only with DII's.
Either way, I learned something, thank you.

Most cars will auto unlock in the event of a crash whether or not they have the auto / speed lock function, or safety central locking as its known in the VAG world.
