okay... I've been told my engine is done...
a few cylinders have low compression.
Of course it rides like ****... but it drives,
i cant afford a new engine right now.
The rover mechanic said he can drain my oil, put something else in it (some fluid that goes somewhere else) drain that... put the oil back in change plugs... he said this would add some compression and quiet it down it wont completely solve the problem but it would make it better.
id like to add the truck is NOT overheating, just a bit of oil leak
Is there any mechanics that can understand what I'm referring to.
is this a good I idea..?
will this make it worse...?
He said it wont make it worse... like i said it, it drives, even on the highway just shakes til it gets warmed and it smooths out on the highway.
...any advice at all please?
the spark plug he pullled out had oil gunk on it...
any advice please
Thanks,
04 disco
the first rover guy was just "get a new engine" his interest was putting one his newly built improved rover engines in it $5000 ouch.
The new guy has rover experience...
no its not smoking or over heating when it started making a small noise i was told to use 10/40.
even after he does these things he suggested or even the things you think, will it quit down and stop shaking?
last night just to see... i put it up to 90mph and it took it fine.
Then try using a higher detergent oil and change oil more frequent , should help
Leaks are leaks and someone competant should be able to fix em, all that gunk on the plugs odd to me, maybe from plugged pcv system, or someone else may have a better idea
In your first post you mention low compression. Is that plug from a cylinder that is showing low? If so my guess would be you have a valve stuck open on that cylinder. That will cause low compression and could cause a oil/crap residue to build up like that on a plug.
Maybe you should ask that mechanic if he needs help with his new boat payment.
But seriously if you can get it to 90 you don't need a new engine. I've been told three times that I need a new engine, they weren't right any of those times.
An engine flush, or two, and Rotella 15w40. Rotella is designed to clean engines and hold the gunk particles in suspension so they come out when you drain. You should probably pop the valve covers and clean that area so you can see if there is any damage as mentioned above. All that sludge can lead to blocked oil passages and low oil pressure. If you do nothing you will need a new engine. As is if you act now you could save it.
So how handy are you? You didn't answer that question. Are you relying on mechanics or are you able to do the basic stuff yourself?
I would definitely include a sea foam vacuum hose intake treatment along with all that's been said. Definitely some Rotella 15w 40. I would degunk, tune up and take it from there
