Bank 1 sensor 2
Hi all. I am a newbie but just wanted to say great forum already saved me $200 and I have only owned my 2000 d2 for a week.
My knowledge of autos in general is poor so please be patient.
I have a bad o2 sensor (Bank1 Sensor2).
My questions are where is it located? Is it an easy or cheap fix? Can someone with my limited car knowledge replace it easily? and what are the results if I don't replace it straight away.
Thanks in advance.

That oxygen sensor is on the left exhaust pipe behind the catalytic converter. The rear sensors are easier to change than the front ones. You will need to get an oxygen sensor socket from a local parts store ($5-$15) and the sensor itself (others will chime in with who has the best price on that sensor these days). I would advise soaking the sensor with penetrating lubricant (PB Blaster) the night before so it will be easier to remove. Just unclip it from the wiring harness, remove it with the socket, put in the new one, reconnect wiring.
If you decide not to replace it, your check engine light will remain on, and you will not be made aware if something worse happens which would normally turn on the light (because the light is already on). Spike can chime in here, but all the O2 sensors behind the converter do, is make sure the converter is working. It will not effect fuel economy. So the only harm in not changing it is the light remaining on, and not knowing if there are any new problems.
