Battery Drain Ruined BCU - Dealership says
#11
After reading the chat logs here .I'm seeing we need to replace the BCU, ECU and instrument console at the same time. The ECU and BCU are behind the front glove box. Take off glove box, unscrew BCU ECU. Plug and play. Same thing for the instrument panel. No computer programming required.
This way I don't have to pay the dealer and wait 3 months. Wonderful ! May anyone concur?

interesting new info ..
Dealer called and said all BCU's for 99-04 DII's are on national back order.... he said he doesn't think they will ever make them again.. he said it's impossible to program a used BCU...because the VIN # is permanently stamped in?
dealer said putting in a used BCU and ECU will only work if it matches perfectly from the same year .. .. so for ex if you have a 2004 with ACE and secondary air .. and you put in a ECU/BCU from a truck wo ACE an 2nd air .. it won't work ..
am a little concerned now ...cause i just ordered 3 online ... didn't check to make sure...
so since LR stopped making BCU's you'd need a junkyard part .. all 3 from the same LR ...if you can find it ..

Only thing that you need to be sure of is SAI or non SAI ecm.....the 100-640 is SAI ....the 100-460 is non-SAI. After installing turn ignition to position 2 without starting for 20 min or so then switch it off for a couple of mins. Then you should be good to start the engine, Your fob is not going to work without programming it to the installed bcu, You need a scan tool like nanocom to do that as well as enable and disable features you may or may not have. Only the bcu can be programmed ...the ecm cannot which is why you need to get the correct ecm/bcm combo. And be sure the battery is disconnected when swapping out.

just to make sure i don't need to go through the engine .. only the glovebox .. the ECU is on the passenger foot right side on the steel body wall right? doesnt seem like the best place to put any computer .. maybe ill put some rubber under it to help with the vibrations .. the parts for these cars are gonna dry up .. and now the dealers saying no more BCU's are being made.. if u have some time .. you can call your local dealer to make sure im right .. am hoping they gave me the wrong information and will not stop making computer parts on older D's .. thank you so much for your help sir ..
ill keep everyone updated .. thanks

I am following up on this thread I started to let everyone know how it went.
I purchased a matching ECU (ECM) BCU + instrument cluster from a matching vehicle. I just finished installing the ECU and BCU (I was too lazy to install the instrument cluster + it's got an arrow on it where my original cluster does not .... but the seller says it matches)
The car turns on and runs. The horn works. The alarm is not sounding anymore. BUT......
THE DAMN ROOF DOME LIGHTS ARE STILL ON AND THEY WON'T TURN OFF ! Exactly as before when the car was in passive alarm mode. I am dumbfounded as to why .
Also the Traction Control light and Hill Descrnt control light is permanently on. Also the engine feels a little different. Can't quite but my finger on it. I ordered a Nanocom. Hopefully I can fine tune it? I would like to increase the horse power.
The next step is to figure out how to get the interior lights to shut off and get rid of the TC and HD lights.
