Default Bay Area Mechanic (head gasket problem at Death Valley)

Long story short, was on my way to doing 5-7 day trip but I blew my head gasket at Death Valley on my D2

I’ll be towing it back to Manteca or Bay Area… I’m looking for anyone or a shop that can help me replace my gasket.

Do y’all know anyone or a recommendation?

I just change my waterpump, hoses, and thermostat for this trip… super bum that my gasket gave up on our first day trip

Which thermostat did you use? Did you have an OBD temperature monitoring system?

stock one I got from the dealer. No, I don’t have a OBD temp sensor.

There's a shop in San Mateo just off El Camino called Peninsula European. They do great work and they walk you through what they have done if you ask. Just make sure when you go that you have a bit of time to spare as they are extremely chatty and tend to be busy. https://www.peninsulaeuropean.com/

Also if you look around the shop you will see lots of Land Rovers and a few tricked out Defenders if your lucky

Mike at West Coast British has experience with the inline thermostat mod, so if you wanted to go that route and avoid a repeat you might check with them.

Good to know, hoping some of the shops will start offering it to people not on the forum so less of these get sent to the crusher. I have seen so many in the junkyards the last 5 years it was a little scary.

I never heard of in-line thermostat. Can I do this myself?
