Default Becker to Alpine?

I recently purchased a 2004 HSE with the HK sound and Becker with nav. The nav is useless and I find the operation of the Becker radio unintuitive and asinine. So I picked up a used OEM Alpine unit from a buddy out of his 2003 SE without HK. I had the Alpine in my last DII and prefer it much more. It's basic, primitive, and easy to operate - much like the DII itself...right?

Anyway, a couple nights ago, I tried to do the swap myself - got the Becker out of the dash, plugged in the Alpine and the first odd thing was that it didn't ask for a radio code, however it lit up and displayed a local station including the local stations info, however no sound and no response from any of the buttons. The grey, orange, blue, and green connectors on the right side of the radio lined up and plugged in just fine, but there was another black wire that plugged in to the bottom right corner of the Becker that didn't have a spot on the Alpine. Is this an antenna? I'm thinking it may be because I think I damaged it - I put the Becker back in for the time being and now I don't have radio reception, just static.

I know I could always go aftermarket but I'm really not interested. I just have a thing for the clean, consistent OEM dash appearance

P.S. Maybe or maybe not related, but not long after, #6 CD in the magazine under the passenger seat seems to have jammed halfway between loading and unloading? It's been a silent past few days.....

Cheers,
Jake

The aerial plugs into the back of the Becker, it's the black line from memory. Can't help you with the 6 CD cassette though, mine seems OK at the moment but I've been waiting for it to crash out for some years now.

Yes that’s the antenna line. On the standard stereo you won’t need that plastic connector/adapter

And the fact that the Alpine lit up and displayed info but couldn't do anything else and never asked for a code? Is that odd or do I just have to wait?

I'm pretty sure that the low line Alpine and high line systems are different animals not meant to cross breed. Entirely different setup of amplifiers etc.

There are old threads on this forum where I remember that from.

So it's not possible? Or just not exactly "plug and play?"
