Default belt tentioner

the auto electric guy says there is nothing he canfind wrong with my alt and suggested my belt tentioner may be the culprit i found one for $100 seems pretty expensive to me. i was just wondering if there is a cheaper one someone knows about .

well shiver me timbers i am one of those idiots. the belt was routed wrong, but i see why so many people do it wrong it was like a jigsaw puzzle to figure out how to get it that way. the way i had it was much easier but i should have suspected it was wrong cause i always wondered why it came so close to the top of the fan shroud. but when it came that way from the po you don't really question if its right. thanks spike

No problem.
As you found out it is VERY easy to do it wrong on a DI, it looks right, it fits, everything turns...but its wrong and the water pump and alt turn to slow to work correctly.

i never would have thought it was wrong i put it on the way it came off when i did my head gaskets but the po must have screwed it up and i knew no better, and it worked fine for months. go figure. i think the biggest part is it goes on so easily the wrong way, but you have to work at it the right way.
