2004 D2 if you can find one for a good price.

If it has CDL, it will be good off road. All the DI's and the 2004 DII come with it, some of the earlier DII models can have it installed. (Even without CDL, a stock disco is impressive off road, but CDL makes a HUGE difference.)

D1 are simpler, have less electronics and have CDL standard making them IMO the best off road.

DI's also have full floating axles.

Off Roading Only. Then the D1.

Daily driving and off roading the D2.

I really like my DII but I would go with a D1 if you plan to do a lot of off-roading.

Joe,
Best 4wheeler for what type of wheeling, how experienced are you?
If you match a D1 and D2, with the same features, a D2 will do equally as well as a D1 but ride better.
