Cant really see why people always think the d1 is cheaper. The same things go wrong on BOTH vehicles, the big cost diff is the Hubs on the D2, yes they are a lot of money, but go wrong less often. I bet if you had both vehicles, what you spend on repairs would even out over time.
And as far as D1 floating axles, if you look at the setup, the D2 offers more articulation (more again with ACE) as they deleted the A frame and fitted the watts linkage instead.
If you want to drive in comfort and control TO your trail, then go have some fun ON the trail, a D2 all the way for me (except the V8 part)

What is the HP and TQ numbers like on the Diesel TDi ?
What is the top end MPH?
I always thought I wanted a TDi Disco but a friend told me that his TDi would only go 75 to 80 mph flat out.
It makes me wonder what a normal driving speed would be.
I have a Diesel car, VW and it has 125hp and 250 ftlbs tq on 3000 lb car so it goes very well and the mpg are about 50mpg top end is 132mph (ask how I know).
If you can make a Disco Tdi go I would like one.
I want to know if the 6.2 V8 GM swap that I have read about in LRM is normal swap in the UK?
If gas gets to high I may look at a Naturel Gas (NG) setup.
Off road the Classic Disco I in the USA is very cheap to buy, cost of up keep is the same as Disco II more or less.
