Your not going to get much off the valve covers using oil. Remove them and clean them off. If your looking to flush your engine of carbon. Drain the oil, put in 5-6 quarts of tranny fluid. Run it at idle for 20 minutes. Drain it and change your filter. 1000 miles laterdo another oil change. Some people also prefer the seafoam route.

Do yourself a favor and Stop using lucas oil additive. it is the worst thing for your engine.

My next oil change I am going to try a can of RESTORE to see if I can get some lost compression back.

Other than tranny fluid does anyone else have any ideas? i was planning on taking the valve covers off, or even replacing them. they are pretty nasty. the car sat for a long while. i already added seafoam to the gas. any ideas would be great. this disco has a long road trip ahead of her.

Oil companies engineering their oil with a specific chemistry. I would use an additive made by the same company that produces the motor oil you use. Spend the money on better oil, not additives.

I agree that you should do an ATF engine flush. I did this in mine and it reduced my lifter tick.

Cheers,

Pete

If you need a oil additive then you need a new motor oil.
The best thing that you can do is switch to full synthetic motor oil and then forget about it.
www.pennzoil.com
I use Mobil 1 but the pennzoil site has some good info on it.
If you have alot of sludge build up i would be leary of the ATF engine flush. If all of that sludge breaks loose it can clog your oil pick up tube for the oil pump.

One thing you need to realize is that if the v/c is a mess, the rest of the engine is the same or worse.
What oil have you been using and how often do you change it?
Other then spending BIG $$$$ to have a shop chemically flush the engine, the ATF process is about the best way to go for quick results.

So this tranny flush is a safe way? I just did not want to cause more damage by adding this.
