Default Best Shock and spring combo? 03 DII

Hi,
I was interested in new shocks and springs... The handling is soft and it dives real good while braking.

Daily driver, mostly highway and around town. I will be towing a small box trailer (about 3000 lbs total trailed weight) across country.

130,000 miles on my DII, everything up to date and working well.

I was interested in suggestions... Should I get shocks and springs? Just shocks?
If I wanted to get springs to lift it 1" will that change anything for the worse?

Billstein shocks? Eibach springs?

Thanks so much for any input!
Scott

These are not civics, there are much better springs out there than Eibach . New shocks would be a good start, but you're going to want to grab springs as well.

Your factory steering stabilizer, shocks and springs are all dead at this point, your truck is most likely sitting around 1.5"s lower then new and you sway all over the road.
If you want to improve your mostly daily driver, replace them all, switching to a medium duty set of Old Man Emus or similiar quality lift.

I'd agree with DiscoMike. I chose the HD OME springs and shocks and got a 2 inch lift and much better handling. I drive 90% on paved roads but heck, I live in Houston, the #1 pothole city in the country! Also be sure to do the steering shock as DM says, it makes a big difference .

Here is an image of my new OME next to the original LR one I removed. Only about an inch taller but much stiffer, thus the 2" lift after installation.

From experience at that mileage do not put new shocks on before you do the springs.

I ruined a new set of Bilsteins in six months that way by trying to save money and do the job in stages.

The ride is good for a little while but the Bilsteins were not made to take the whole load of the Discovery when the springs are shot.

Apparently there is a very good reason they sell shocks and springs in kits!

Now I'm riding on new (6 month old) OME MD springs with failed shocks. Not so good. I had to slow down to 5mph on the last dirt road I attempted!!!

Just took delivery of OME 60024/26 shocks and will install those shortly. I'm hoping for a much better ride and the ability to go off pavement again.

Thanks guys! I already have the OME steering stabilizer from about 70,000 miles ago. I think I will go with medium OME shocks and springs

Any guess as to how many hours shop would take to install?

Thanks again

Scott

If you can do it yourself, try. There are not many tools required, and there are a few videos out there that walk you through it.

Check out the TerraFirma shocks and springs too. A lot of guys are using them and they are cheaper than the OME stuff.

Ok great... I'm disabled and don't have the ability I used to... I have a friend that can do it no problem, just a matter of if he has time....
Thanks,
Scott

Mostly dependent on how rusty it is!
