Default Better MPG??

Got talking to someone who had a Disco 2 years ago. He said he had fitted what he described as a "whizzer" to his, which by his description was a type of fan, about the diameter of a cup, which fitted in the air intake and acted like a supercharger forcing more air into the mixture and increasing MPG from about 25 to nearer 45-50. Has anyone heard of this? What is it, where do I get one, is it true etc?? I'm intrigued - please help!

Getting a starting mpg of 25 is already quite a long way from reality.

@Mr R Yea 25 MPG is parked in the driveway, and that fan device is basically snake oil. 5000 lbs, full time 4 wheel drive and V8 makes for poor gas mileage there is no fix other than a diesel engine

Hah! I saw those for sale online a few years ago. They've also been sold as "in line superchargers" and the like. As has already been said, complete snake oil.
