Interesting on the SAI. I honestly have not paid attention to them on mine.

So update for everyone. I've had a rattling drivers side CAT since I bought it. Watching the voltages from the O2s, and the secondaries were all over the place. ECU wasn't throwing a code yet but I went ahead and replaced them anyway last night. (Side note DAVICO Cats = nightmare. Driver's flange was welded on at the wrong angle. Had to cut it off and reweld. Nothing lined up. Passenger side heat shield was hitting the framerail. ugh)

Drove to work this morning. Roughly 34º F this morning with wet roads.

The coolant temp was MUCH MUCH MUCH more consistent. Under load going up a hill for example, it USED TO climb to 203-206 pretty quick from 194-196, and then decrease almost as fast.

Now it stayed pretty close to 194-197.6 throughout most driving unless I got on it hard. After 20 minutes of driving and a hard acceleration up to 55 mph, it peaked at 203 when I let off (from 197.6 in stop light traffic, and then to 204 when I pulled into the parking lot. Then I shut it off.

CATs must have been more plugged up than I realized. More power now, and more consistent (not bouncing around) temp readings.

BUT I feel it is still warmer than it should be. I'll check the function of the radiator/thermostat in the next couple days and report back.

Glad to hear you had a successful day. Good observations. Yeah, those Davco units are a nightmare. Don't expect it to last more than 2-3 years. My Davico unit dislodged the driver's side catalyst within 2 years of installing it. Rattle Rattle Rattle...

Keep us posted w/ your progress... I will as well.

It will be great if we can stay on this. It's obviously an extensive problem. Guy at work said that I need to look into Summit and get a larger radiator. Not a bad idea going a different route in that department. Get around LR weak-*** design. Right now I'm imagining a higher capacity radiator, electric fan programmed to power-on when coolant temp reaches 190 or so and a higher speed that activates when ambient air is oh, say 90 deg threshold. Top it off with an inline thermostat of 180 variety.

My SAI pump kicked on, for roughly five seconds, after the engine was already warmed up (at operating temp). The temp displayed on the UG read ~199. What triggers the operation of the pump, radiator coolant temp sensor? If so, would this point to a stuck closed t-stat? I gotta believe my radiator is not plugged, it's new. Thoughts?

I tightened-up all of the hose clamps on the SAI tubes yesterday. The codes (0141, 0145), CEL and random pump activation has ceased. Don't know what your situation could have been, but this worked for me.

Codes are actually p1412 and 1415, came back today when I cranked the engine. About to research it now

Coors, keep us posted on the temps for the inline swap. I want to see if that will stabilize temps.

The Saga continues.

56 and rainy here in Philly. Climate Control set on 68 Defrost setting.

Ran at 188.6 all day, 197.6 at red lights. It never went past 197.6.

Not saying this is the cure, but last night I literally beat on the thermostat housing and forcible squeezed hoses while the truck was running, thinking it might have been stuck or clogged by a small piece of debris.

And...I came home to my inline stat housing and water sending unit sitting on my stoop. I'm still moving forward with the inline mod. But for ****s and giggles I'm gonna monitor temps for a few more days before diving in. Stay tuned.

Lucky dog! Great job! That stuff can happen. My truck was getting up to like 220 with my last stat and when I changed it, I found a tiny piece of plastic wedged right over one of the holes. I planned on pulling mine off soon, as I bought some clamps and such, to look for a reoccurrence but I havent sacked-up to the task just yet. I have new motivation!

Dear Diary,

46 Ambient & Partly Cloudy in Philly. Climate Control set at 68F "Econ" mode

190.4 - 194.0 all day @ speeds under 40mph
188.6 over 40mph (zero fluctuations)
Spike to 201 at red lights. Then, quickly down to 199.4 until I begin rolling down the road again.

I cannot explain the phenomenon, but I'm smiling

doesn't econ mode kill all power to the AC including the condenser fan?
