Default Black soot

I have been getting a black soot build up on my tail pipe. To me that means my Disco is running rich. What could be the cause of this. I have new plugs, wires, sea foam has been done, new air filter, new ox sensors, new thermostat and burn 93oct gas. I now have 120k on the clock. I have been getting 13 to 14 mpg and I am running 32" tires.

Mine was doing that for a while- it was a vacuum leak. One of the pcv hoses if I remember right.

How often do you get it out on the road and blow it out, what octane gas are you running, does it smell rich and do you have a check engine light on?

I burn 93 Octane. What should I do to blow it out? I do live close to HWY 40 so if I need to stretch it out I can. I only drive it about 3 to 400 miles a month with a top speed of 60 and its all HWY. There is no check engine light on. I will do a smell check when I get back home.

There is nothing that you can do other than drive it longer.
What Mike means by "blow it out" is to get on the expressway and just floor it and drive like hell for a few miles.
The only problem with that is that it is not needed, the truck is fuel injected not carburated so it only runs rich when cold and at no other time will a fuel injected engine run rich unless there is a problem.
Like bad O2's, bad plugs and wires or a clogged air filter for example.
So because you drive the truck so little you will get the soot built up inside your tailpipe.
My wifes Volvo's tailpipe is the exact same way, her car gets lots of short trips, most of them are under 2 miles.
If you are driving the same way then you will get the same thing.
So dont worry about it.

I have never seen a Disco without the black ring around the edge of the tail pipe.

You can always do an induction cleaning it is worth it alone to see the look on your neighbors faces as you go tearing around the 'hood with smoke billowing from your truck.

I did the induction cleaning last month. The Disco runs great! I am going to do what Disco Mike said and go for a hot lap down I-40 and puke some of it out. I am sure its due. I do that every now and again in my patrol car to "blow the cats out" besides that its a blast! Thanks all for the info.
