Default Blowing BLACK Soot

Recently I had removed/disassembled/cleaned my 1999 LRD2 4.0L GEM intake manifold. My spark plugs are covered with black soot now. My tailpipe end is covered with black soot now. I understand I have a lean/rich problem. However; I'm almost possitive my choke valve is not set right and possibly my idle air control valve. Any suggestions on how to restore this problem back to a smooth idle and no black soot?

Default Front Differential hub seal.

My 1999 LRD2 has a gear oil leak where the hub meets the differential. The seal looks like it is part of the hub and connects to a large round ball joint. I can not find this seal on Atlantic British. Any suggestions?

Regarding your hub seal...

There seems to be a conflict between the model and part you list here. D2's did not have the large round ball joint that you describe- those were in D1's.

In 1999 Rover offered both D1's and D2's... could it be possible that you have mistaken your D1 for a D2?

The first five digits of your VIN should be able to sort this out.

The following seal should fit the ball joint you describe:
Swivel Ball Seal - ABS - From 1990 for Range Rover Classic, Steering & Suspension Parts

The seal for a D2 would look like this:
Differentials & Other Land Rover Parts | Seal - Pinion - Oil

That is the problem with owning a 1999. Strangly enough the VIN thinks I have a D2. I have noticed that some parts are listed either in series 1 or 2 description. But thanks for the reply. The part you suggested looks like the one I need.

If there's a Gem engine under your hood then you've definitely got a D1, the D2's have the Bosch engine.

Strange as it may be, my VIN shows it to be a D2. However the body is definitly a D1. And the engine is GEMS. The build date is July 1999.
