Blacked out my new Disco!
It's not that you posted in the wrong place, it's just that maintenance is almost all we talk about.
For the overheating problem, check your fan clutch. It should spin less than one full revolution when cold and then get tighter when hot. Otherwise it needs to be replaced.
Another thing to consider is getting a soft spring 180 degree thermostat. The stock thermo is 195 and as a result the trucks tend to run pretty hot. You can get one on Amazon for pretty cheap.
You really, really need to solve your overheating problem ASAP. These trucks love to blow head gaskets, and overheating is the main reason it happens.
The other issue you need to get on top of is the front drive shaft. If the rear up joints. in the front shaft don't have grease fittings, you still have the original shaft. These very commonly fail and destroy the transmission in the process. So either rebuild it for $150 which is a pain in the ***, or buy a aftermarket shaft for $350.
BTW, $800 is pretty good price any way you slice it. You could probly sell it for a profit even with serious issues. So you got that going for you.

Well, I don't completely agree on this, I think there is room for a member touting something they have done that is more cosmetic then mechanical. And I think there are some members here who take themselves a bit too seriously at times! I for one like to occasionally see something other than the gunky inside of an engine!
One can always post in the "New Members" forum or the "Modifications" area but the traffic there at times is slow and sometimes unresponsive.
Just my opinions but I do wonder the purpose of blacking out the wheels. I guess if they are pretty thrashed. Not sure how well paint will adhere in the long run but beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

Well, the one thing I'd recommend is that a Disco is the perfect vehicle to learn to work on cars. I was older than you are when I started working on cars, so it's certainly not too late to start.
1. Discos are easy to work on, with lots of space under the hood and a fairly simple engine.
2. You will get lots of help here at this forum. Like I said, that's what we talk about 90% of the time, and some of the guys here are literally experts at Rover repair.
3. Paying someone else to fix your Rover is expensive. The dealerships are crazy expensive, and the independent guys aren't cheap.
If you want more money to spend on goodies, you should start wrenching on your own truck.
BTW, there's link in DiscoMike's signature that has the full service manual telling you how to do everything from change the oil to replace the transmission. You should download it and check it out.

Yes, the mechanical stuff is pretty important to take care of, but I take it as it comes. If you have the cosmetic stuff already, you're good to go. I like what you did to your truck, it looks good. I've been thinking about using a gunmetal or some sort of dark grey for my wheels instead of black. I've got a Terra Firma 2" lift kit sitting in my garage... that will go on in a few more weeks.
I've had the driveshaft rebuilt on my '04 D2, still have to do the one on my '99. When I get a day off and a few extra bucks, I'll take care of that one. Just do it as you have the time and ability to do it. Don't let some of these guys on here get you riled up because you didn't do things in the order they do them.
That being said, there is a TON of great information on here and these guys really know what they are talking about. Use this site as a learning tool and you'll love the D2. My wife and I both drive one as a daily driver and they run like a top because of the info I've gained from this site.
