I followed the instructions on bleeding the cooling system but no anti-freeze is coming out of the bleed screw with the resevoir full. Any suggestions? The thermostat was just replaced last week.

 

Sounds like still low on coolant, or hose from coolant jug to system is twisted or kinked. That would be hose between items 18 and 17 on attached drawing from RAVE.

 

The rover has been overheating so I picked it up in Houston and brought it home. I drove it today and it got hot again. Bottom Radiator hose and water pump hose are cool to the touch. The top radiator hose is hot. The throttle body heater gasket has bubbles when hot. I am going to replace it tomorrow. Thoughts on a restriction? Thermostat, water pump, or radiator?

 

First, "STOP" driving it unless you want to make a boat anchor out of that engine.

Radiator is restricted - coolant stays inside so long it gets really cool, bottom fins will feel a lot cooler than top. Someone may have put in 2 quarts of stop leak, which has plugged up bottom rows of tubes in radiator. Can also stop up holes in thermostat used to make it open on time.

Always a good idea to tell everything you can in the first post, even if sounds un-related. Helluva jump from can't get bubbes out to picked up overheating Rover and drove it from Houston to... Katy? Woodlands? Dallas? El Paso? Chicago? Pasadena? Humble?

 

It was not driven from Houston. I pulled it back on a trailer. I talked to Mike yesterday and will be replacing the heater core. When I made my original post, I could not get the coolant through. I drove it around the block and it got hot. That is when I added the additional information. There has not been any stop leak added since we purchased it 3 months ago. IN addition to the heater core, I am going to run water through everything to see if I can find a restriction.

 

Being a D2, the heater core has coolant flow all the time. So during times when the thermostat is closed, the circulation through that heater core is needed to keep hot water passing the thermostat so it can open again. You can bypass the core with a hose for testing. Don't know if you could be successful reverse flushing it with garden hose. Change is good, but change heater core is not 15 minute job.

 

I removed enough that I could check the O-Rings. There is no corrosion around them but I did find some rust and corrosion on the bottom passenger side of the heater core. It looks like it is now coming out.

 

help. I just replaced alternator and bleed system accordingly but temp indicator still past red. am i bleeding coolant wrong. 05 range rover hse
