blown head gasket
my aunt has had a 94 dicovery sitting in her yard for the last few years and she told me that i could have it, it has 155 000 miles, the bad news is that it has a blown head gasket. i have never worked on these motors before, but im pretty mechanicly inclined, so where can i get the oem gaskets and where is the best place to buy the repair manual for the 3.9 v8? thanks in advance
That engine is an old Buick engine, so if you have torn into any old GM's you will be right at home.
As for the parts, go to either Atlantic British or Rover Connection, buy their complete head gasket set including the intake manifold gasket and all ne Rover head bolts.
Would be wise to replace the t/stat, all the hoses and fluids when doing the work.

The RAVE CD is a compilaton of PDF files of ALL the technical, diagnostic and repair literature from the factory for the vehicles, including the Owners manual. Thousands of pages of data. No single book can be so comprehensive. The Haynes manual (for example) just touches the surface. To purchase all the literature on the RAVE CD (if you could) would be very very expensive. For ease of use, I print out the sections relevant to the problems I am going to work on, and put them in a binder.
oh well anyways i went to rover parts/atlantic british and found the complete head gasket kit for 120 and it said for the 4.0 litre, is that the same as my 3.9, and i should also get new studs correct? thanks in advance

Call AB, they will confirm the correct parts for your 3.9 and yes, you do need new head bolts.
Make sure you pay close attention to the heads, especially the valve seal. The older D1's had valve guide issues causing alot of carbon build up.
Good luck,
