This happens all the time.
I used to spend about 15 minutes a job on parts procurement, now I spend about an hour making sure my business has the right parts.

There are a huge amount of factors involved in getting a part to you and due to the propensity to employ non skilled people and using computer parts info is just one part of the problems, but there are many more!

Nothing surprises me and I find these days I use part numbers to get what I want. One of my local LR dealers never supplied me a correct part in over a month and Flandie parts simply sent them into a flat spin. FNG's again!

I suppose the biggest snafu was for me something that happened about 20 years ago. Working for a big truck bus maker there was a 6 fleet dump truck with a 100% VOR situation in Tchad due to those bone heads using UK spec trucks in the Sahara desert!

Given the job to fix the engines and tropicalize the fleet I got central parts div to pack everything I needed into cases and ship them Tchad via Apapa.
Three months later my cases had arrived so I flew to Lagos then up to Kano then took the bus into Tchad. After a sleep I opened my cases.
No parts! Just workshop manuals and warranty parts paperwork for Melbourne City Bus company!
Obviously the job was a non starter so I got back down to Nigeria hitched ride on top of a loaded with all the other locals to Kano where upon the driver asked this "Mazunga" to ride in the cab to Lagos.
I got "home" got more parts and then did the job six months later.
Remember is "Everything will be alright in the end --and if its not alright--Its not the end"!
