Brake Job / Getting Scr3wed?
Out of town and Brakes making a squeaking sound, i took the truck to a trusted shop (per friend) and just got told that its the rear brakes and they are at less than 5% it will be $260.00 to do the job. How insane is this price and what other options do i have since i am not near my own garage and cannot drive the truck the rest of the trip like this?
I initially thought it was just dust since i am on the road and it just came on in the past week.
Any help is appreciated

Go to Auto Zone and buy a set of their brake pads and the $10 socket set.
Go back to your friends house and using the trucks jack do one wheel at a time, you just saved $200 and it took you a hour.

Yeah I did my rear brakes in late November when it was cold in Indiana. DBA slotted/ drilled rotors and LR Pads. Pads were $54 from rover north and rotors were about $85 each if I remember correctly. Its not a hard job. If you are fast maybe 2.5 hours doing rotors. Even if the rotors are well worn only a new set of pads will get your home. My family thought I was crazy working in the cold till I said i am saving about $300 and Midas, Car-X or Meinikee can't even order that nice of a performance rotor.
thats fine ur gonna do it yourself and all but number 1 you need rotors too or get them cut otherwise your wasting ur time.also that price was cheap depending on if they were cuting the rotors or replacing them.all you guys need to remember that us shop owners arnt in business to rip people off but we have to make money and feed our kids just like everyone else.im tired of people complaing that they are being ripped off by shops, granted there are some bad shops but shops arnt in business to be ur best friend and do stuff for nothin we have lots of overhead and need to make money.

Thanks
You wouldn't happen to know of a solid Rover guy in phoenix AZ? We have a guy that is amazing with them, but he is in Tucson and it is a pain to take the truck down to him.
Any help is appreciated
For brakes and rotors, thats not too bad... I did mine for $99.99 shipped from Rovers North but i had spare time to do so. Given your situation, brakes and rotors for that price sound reasonable.
Could be worse, I was quoted $460.00 for rear rotors / brakes
