Going to finally do the brakes on my DII. Which rebuild kit would you recommend?

I originally wanted to only change the pads, but I feel a slight wobble on braking/stopping so I assume a/the rotor(s) is/are warped.

My tech will charge me only about $100-150 to do the job.

I'd say you don't need to be quite as particular with the rotors. For pads, I'd go with the Akebono. They're a little pricier but great quality.

 

Re: Akebono - That seems to be the consensus.
However, on this go 'round, I went with the standard kit on AB - only because the Akebono's front and rear would be $100 and I knew I was going to do the rotors, so for now, this presented the best value. So far, everything I've gotten from AB has been good, so we'll see. Worst case, I'll swap the pads for Akebonos in the Winter.

You should do the job yourself, brakes are sooooo easy!

 

Why give a mechanic that money, brakes are so easy, then you could put on good quality Akebono pads instead of going cheap?

 

Just ordered the standard/basic kit from AB (here.)

Mike, I don't mind tackling the brake job (i.e., pad replacement and bleeding) myself. Heck, I rebuilt my propshaft (yeah - it took two days and lots of painkillers, but I did it.) I'm more concerned about doing the rotors and not having the proper tools or damaging the ABS sensors.

I looked in the write up section, but nothing on replacing rotors. I guess I'll take to Google. It would be great to do this job myself - even if it takes me all day.

Anyone know how long before AB ships?

No mention of being careful about the ABS sensors, but I'll keep that in mind. Looks super easy - especially compared to what I've done before, so... I'll keep ya posted.

EDIT: I stand corrected; He *does* indeed mention being careful about the ABS sensors, in Part II (the front job.)

There is a retainer screw on each rotor, remove it, hit the rotor with a hammer, it will fall off.
Put new rotor on, throw away retaining screw, put new pads on, done, next wheel.
15 min per wheel.

 

It may not be that easy, but that's the procedure. The retainer screw may give you a fight. Just smack the back of the screwdriver w/ a hammer.

 

I've got an impact driver just in case.

Hopefully this kit will get here this week so I can tackle it this weekend.
