Default Brake Lights don't work, but all other lights in rear OK. Shifts out of park OK.

Hi everyone,

So, I have a 2003 DII with about 90,000 miles on it. The other day, all three brake lights stopped working. All other lights in the rear work, including the bulbs for the brake lights when you turn the headlights on. Checked the fuses inside (4, 11, 25, 29, 33) and 14 under the hood to be sure. Truck shifts out of park, no problem, but can the switch be bad and still allow this?

Next steps?

Thanks!

i'd swap that fuse just to be sure. then test the signal to and from the switch (rule out switch as problem).

Could still be the brake light switch.
The switch is a compound switch actually two switches in one.

I would still pull a bulb and look at the filaments too or ohm out the bulb with a VOM on X10 scale.

Thanks all. It was the switch. Even with the switch entirely removed, the truck will still shift out of park...

Having the same issue here on my 2001 D2. I replaced the switch and fuse 25 which had blown. All other lights work, but no brake lights? Bulbs test good! Ideas?????

So, at first I replaced the switch with a new one from Autozone. It was the "new" design and my brake lights did not work. I got an original design from Advance and the lights now work like a charm!!! 259K and still going strong!

Granted, these two guys were working on earlier models. But, both (in post #4 and #6) solved the problem by replacing the brake switch on the pedal.

Land Rover 3 ambigos solved 100% with proof)

Below the front right foot mate lots of cables are going backwards from the firewall , wity in these cable is a connection with splicers which is broken or rusted that causes initially intermittent and later on permanent break fault ( 3 amigos hdc , suspension , and special program off faults)

here is a link which is not very clear but enough to work on !!
