Brake Pads / Rotors
I brought my truck in to have the brakes looked at ( 02 D2 ) 70K miles and was told that I needed rear pads and rotors. The dealer quoted me $700. I took it to my local rover shop and they can do it for $370 including labor. I am not mechanically able to even attemp this. So is the $370 a good price for this, or should I keep shopping around.
Thanks
Thanks
You can get Land Rover rotors and pads for 286.00 from roversnorth.com, i did my first rear brake job on my disco not to long ago and it was so easy, and i had never done a single mechanical thing in my life... I wouldnt be so scared of it, unless you just dont want to bother with it...

Brakes and rotors were the first thing I ever did. Everything is really straight forward and I don't see how you could screw it up. I totally understand the hesitation given the critical nature of the components but get the parts and give it a go. If you get into it and feel over your head (which I seriously doubt) you're not out anything. After all, you were planning on paying someone else to do it anyway.
Plus, if you run into trouble there are tons of people here who've got your back.
To your question I agree they must be cheap parts. Never go cheap on brakes or tires, just my opinion.

I need new rear brake pads. Land rover wants 350 just for rear brake pads. I searched ebay and i can get the genuine pads for 60 bucks and have a shop down the street install them for 100 bucks.
If you are just changing pads, you can do it in under 20 minutes. That is real time. Do it yourself and fill up your truck and throw in a can of BG 44K. The money will be better spent...
I was so excited after changing my rear brake pads and how easy it was that i went and ordered my fronts to get them done also.... Then i ordered all new rotors and pads for my wifes truck and i was done in 40 minutes all for wheels. I saved myself around 1200.00 just by taking a second and trying somthing new, and i found out it was the easiest thing to do, and it was no harder then say changing oil. Now some of the bolts are hard to get off but thats when the proper tools and lube comes into play.... Anyway i hope that you give it a try because i felt a new respect for the cars after i did them, almost closer to the truck because it now had my labor attached to it...
If you get stuck or havea question come back on here and ask away, there is so many pictures on the web on each step of the brake change that you will never feel lost and there will not be any suprises. You will also be able toget your question answered quickly... I hope the owner of this thread comes back online to check out our posts, and doesnt come back on an say i just had the local guy install the cheapest crap he could order and charge me 370.00 to do it....
