Default Brake Pads and Rotors - OEM or Aftermarket?

I thought that I would come to the braintrust. I have a 99 Discovery I. I am ready for rear pads, maybe rotors. Is there a consensus on OEM pads and rotors vs. Aftermarket pads and rotors? The OEM goods seem to work well but a quite pricey ($600 front and rear rotors and pads). The Aftermarket goods seem to also have good reports. (front and rear rotors and pads $300 ferodo pads). Anydifference for performance, durability and longevity?I have also heard that OEM Rotors can't be turned, is that true? Thanks for the feedback! Phil

Once they are worn to the point they have to be turned, they are smaller than specs allow. Not enough room for error or wear on the rotors. These are heavy trucks and the brakes are strained. Atlantic british has brake kits on sale still, I think. all of their sets are good..

I think they are on sale until the end of the month, I bought a set just because I thought it was a good price for everything.

Aftermarket will do just fine.

I wouldagree. The key is finding a vendor/store that sell brake products that meet ISO standard. Some may frown about eBay parts, but for me I got all four rotors and pads for less then $200 on eBay.Granted I have yet to drive the truck with these pads and rotors, but I've changed numerous pads/rotors to feel confident that my eBay partswill be sufficient.

I agree also except with Okdiscoguy's comment, you can't, under any circumstances, resurface or turn Rover rotors, the alloy is too thin to start with with and too soft.
Atlantic British has a great deal on the brake sales.

That's what I was saying Mike. You can't turn them.
