Default Click noise

Question.

I have a 2003 DII with 46k miles.
I have noticied that when I press the gas padel, then take my foot off of it, then press it again there tends to be a click/clunk noise coming from the right side. It kind of sounds similiar toa drive line/u joint type noise.

Any thoughts?

Have your u-joints inspected, the entire driveline is on the right side of the trk. Almost under the passengers feet.

Do you ever grease your drive shaft fittings, have you replaced the e u-joints in the double cardon that attaches to the t/case and have you checked the rotoflex at the end of the rear drive shaft to make sure the rubber ring is not cracking?????????????
Rovers are know to have a little clunk as you have described, if it is more then that then any one of the items mentioned will cause it to be louder/worse.

I have had my DII inspected and lubed.

The noise isn't all the time.

If happens mostly at higher speeds 45 - 60.
If I pull my foot off the pedal then drop it back on it tends to do it.
I first noticed it when I was behind a brake rider.
I would be going along and then the other car would ride the brake to slow then it would speed up.
I would have to adjust also. Most of the time I'm not behind anyone like this.

But since I noticed it, I thought I would get some advice from you guys.

Hey guys

hate to bother again on this post and maybe I just need to relax.

Anyway, I had the u joints looked at.
I had them greased (they were the greasable type)
I had the rotoflex checked.

All checked out good.

But I still have the cluck noise when I ease off the gas pedal and then re press it.

I got brave and went under the D II (parked of course) and grabbed hold of the front drive line.
I then attempted to rotate it.
When I rotated it the little bit that it would I heard the noise that I'm wondering about.
It came from the location where the back end of the front drive line enters the thing (sorry not very techincal) in the middle of the D II. This thing is the same thing that the front end of the back drive line connects

So, any advice?

thanks

You need to have the front drive shaft replaced, those 2 greaseless u-joint are prone to failing. Have the shaft rebuilt with 2 greasiable u-joints and a new centering ball kit, apx $200 parts and labor.
If you don't do this you can loose your tranny as many have.

does it sound like the noise if from the transfer case... if so, its normal, its all gear driven, when you let off the gas youre unloading your drive line, all the gears ride on one side of theire teeth, when you hit the gas again, youre spinning the input of the t-case and the gear slaps on the other side of the teeth, when drivin in this manor, all discos do this, some more then others, but they all do, as long as your ujoints are good, and have no play in them, youre fine... ujoints will cause a more metalic sound, the tcase gears will be a low pitched clunk almost

X2, the little clunk is normal. If you have grease fittings on all 3 u-joints on the front shaft, you are ok. Mike mis-read your post.

Look at it this way....Price of driveshaft rebuild.... $200 to $350- Price of failing driveshaft and colateral damage... +or- $8000. Peace of mind ofdriving around with rebuilt driveshaft......Priceless !!!
