Brakes rubbing
Hey all. The driver side rear brake on my '96 SE7 has been acting up these past couple of weeks. It started out as a very faint grinding noise only when under pressure, but it's gotten consistently worse since then. Now the disc rubs and grinds all the time, whether under braking power or not. When I do apply the brakes it makes a terrible grinding noise. I have a feeling it may have to do with getting mud in there from wheeling, but I'm really not sure. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Uh, you need new brake pads and new rotors now.
What you are hearing is the metal backig platethat the brake pad is glued to grinding itself into the brake rotor.
Stop driving it and get new brake pads and rotors put on the truck before you really mess things up..

Crap. That's exactly what I didn't want to hear. If I can have a friend do all the labor for free (or maybe a six pack or two) how much am I looking at for parts?
Next time you hear a noise, be a little more responsible and check it out ASAP.
Make sure whoever does your brakes repacks your bearing, bleeds your brakes and replaces all the seals, this lesson is going to cost you.

www.autozone.com and www.atlanticbritish.com for parts pricing. You will need to see exactly what you need before you can order parts.
How close is the nearest brake/muffler shop to you?

Around the corner. The only reason I didn't do anything about it immediately wasbecause I was at school, but I'm home for the week end, so I can actually do something about it now.
Call the muffler shop and ask them if they do free brake inspections. Take your truck to them and have them give you a estimate with everything that you will need.
Have them put it back together because you will have to go home and talk to your parents about borrowing the money.
Take the estimate with you and then buy your parts and have your buddy come over.

I've got enough money for a brake job, I was just saving it for a new suspension. Just sucks is all... Thanks for your help man, I'll make a few phone calls.
My point about telling the shop that you dont have the money is so that they let you out of there with no hassle. They will pressure you to have it done by them because they want the money.
But a poor college kid...you get my point?
