Just a few issues...first off, i love my truck and i'm in it for the long haul, so when it comes to repairs i want them to last...this is what is happening right now...and my mechanic and i are both clueless as to what is going on...any ideas?
numero uno: a rattle. not just any rattle, but one that began at the same time the front left caliper started leaking. new caliper installed, new pads added to both front, and new pins and clips. ah beautiful ride thereafter...but slowly the sound comes back. and now it's back full force. what the heck is it??
numero dos: the click. upon braking from 35mph to 0mph there is this mechanical click sound coming from the brakes. what the?
numero tres: the speedometer likes to work when it wants to, not when it should...some times it doesn't work, sometimes it works fine, and other times it goes a little nuts. anyone know an underlying cause?
numero quatro: sometimes it doesn't want to turn over. it usually only happens once, then starts fine. This has been going on for years. anyone have it lead to a more serious issue?
numero cinco: engine lag. is it age or is she just in need of some ?
thank you!!
I think 123 are your brakes, but not sure what. 4, check the heat shield on your starter, or it might just be getting tired. 5-these things don't have enough power...and a 350 won't fit.[:'(]

This going to be a hands on job, look for a Land Rover mechanic .
Numero Quattro : If this is seriously intermittent, then it sounds like one of two things... either the bendix (slidey bit) in the starter is occasionally sticking and running a current through the starter for the first time is enough to free it... or... you're missing a couple of teeth on the starter ring of the flywheel.
If it's the first of the above, it will get worse, eventually - you can recon the starter motor pretty easily - I've had Austin Mini's do this on numerous occasions, taking the starter out and giving everything a good grease fixes it, usually for the life of the vehicle. If it's the second, it's unlikely to get worse, but if it does it's an engine out job (pretty sure, but not 100% on a V8 disco) to replace the starter ring.
Numero's Uno, Dos y Tres... Did you loctite the caliper retaining bolts? If not, pull 'em, loctite 'em and torque 'em back up. If you did, jack it up, take the road wheel off and grab a hold of the disc. Give it a good amount of manual abuse, twist it, pull it, wrench it about (do NOT use tools, only your hands) - any signs of play and pull the hub, to check the disc retaining bolts are ok. If they're all ok, it might just be the bearing needs adjusting, which you can do while you put the hub back on
Cheers,

Just a reminder that all cars referred to as 'British' are in fact now to be referred to by their more correct title, 'English' cars.
If the Scots and the Welsh want devolution and Scots refer to their oil industry as 'Scottish' then us English are reclaiming our automobile industry!
