Default British V8 Magazine

Found this realy cool issue with a moster build of our 4.0, using olds 300 heads and crank and all kinds of machine work, but what cought my eye was when they were talking about valve train. They gave the option of using buick lifters or oem with no indication there was a difference in mic'd sizes. Now this entices me as im trying to find an engine noise and lifters are an easy try but there is a HUGE difference in price between oem lifters and when you can pick up the the ones sized for the older buick. Plus you can get them from reputable companies like cran and such. Has anyone ever replaced thier lifters in the 4.0 with something other than the oem LR parts?

90% of the lifter noise in a LR is not the lifters, it is the rocker arms.

but isn't it the steel insert on the rocker arm that breaks loose from the aluminum, then gets to rapping on the valve stem? that im sure i could pinpoint with the s'scope and the top end of the valve train is very quiet. Nobody has replaced thier lifters with something other than OE?

I looked for a roller cam setup but I could not find one.
The only performance cams I found you could get with lifters had
oem lifters.
If a valve set came out of place you could not run for long before it droped a
valve.

The only way to know this for 100% is to remove a couple of rocker arms.

I have not replaced anything on my engine because it does not need it, if you use something other than OEM lifters make sure that they are hydrolic and not solid.

What was the magazine? I'd like to try and get the article too. Rover V8 in the UK is like the Ford 302 or Chevy 350 here. It's the only plentyful used V8 around over there for hot rodders.
