Bumpers and Sliders
ARB - Looks good but doesn't hold up to actual use
my hood blackout is of the giant sticker variety. its from vigg designs and the cuts weren't straight. don't order from there.
street wolf - do you know that they hold up well? Or are you just saying that to defend your purchase?? The other consideration for the ARB is that the approach angles aren't as helpful as the RTE etc....
I will add my 2 cents on this post...
If you have a friend who is a welder here is what you can do. Get rid of the cheap plastic corners of your bumper, and since you have a D1 the rest of your bumper is made of steel. Then make a design of what you want to replace your corners with, and if you do some off-roading, it will give you the oppotunity to improve the approach angles. Visit lots of websites to inspire you. You can ask your fiend to do the sliders at the same time.
Go buy 1/8 or 1/16 thick steel plate and have your welder friend do the corners for you. Then paint all your new parts with flat black paint, it is easier to do touch ups.
Don't forget to offer him the beer for the job and the chance to drive your Disco
.
Since I live in the middle of nowhere, off-road gear such as bumpers, sliders and a-bars are overpriced.

i was actually considering just removing the ugly plastic caps from my front and rear bumpers and replacing them with a flat plate welded to the rest of the bumper to clean it up.
since i don't need the angle/strength of aftermarket yet (my Disco is still my daily driver and doesn't see anything too extreme off-road) i thought that would be a good way to make it look a little tougher
also my caps are discolored/beat anyway

I plan on adding a winch, so I definitely need a winch bumper, but I think definitely with some modification, the stock bumper could be improved. I still don't understand (well I guess being in Marketing I actually do.. but)... why Land Rover would create a very functional off-road vehicle and put a front bumper on that hangs down low with plastic crap.. oh well..
matt I would definitely suggest you take a look at Urban Panzer's page about his discreet winch setup.

he owns a DII but I think this can apply to DI (someone correct me if I'm wrong). the beauty of this setup is that the winch is mounted on the frame, so you don't need a bumper made for a winch.

I know they hold up well. We've nearly lifted the entire front of the truck up with the winch one time trying to get out of a mud hole.
Oh, and can't forget the back end of that car I smashed with it once. I would of taken pictures of the damage it caused to my bumper if it had actually done something.

The thing about Urban Panzers setup is that the bumper (and winch) are so low.. the approach angle of that truck is not ideal....
As far as the ARB bumpers.. I am sure they are fairly high quality.. but I think I have decided on a bumper without any brush protection.. and I want the best approach angle possible. I still need to talk to Disco Mike, but I really like the High Country bumpers sliders and the rear tire carrier..

The ARB bumper does not give a good approach angle. I don't like the angle it gives me at all. I have had more than a few jeeps s****er I've run with at me when I come up to rocks and just hit with my ARB. Some people cut off some of the bottom ARB bumper to get more angle. If you are going to do some heavy duty wheeling you will need all the approach angle you can get and some of these other bumpers/bullguards will do much better for you. They are not particularly strong either. Mine have bent pretty easily on both sides when i've wedged in rocks or come down off a rock and hit on the ARB.
