Hi all,

I am on the market for used Disco 2.

Pretty much read everything on the web for them and I know what are the main things to go after. CDL is one of them of course, so I am looking only for 2004 Disco 2s.

However, I found one '04 (VIN: SALLTGM884A870022), but it has no diff lock?! The small lever moves only forward/backward. Attaching a photo of the lever for reference:




The truck is in very good condition, no rust on the frame/chassis, but the lack of CDL bothers me a lot!
The manufacture's date according to some VIN decoder is 21.05.2004, so it is gotta be one of the latest 2s...
According to what I found on the web, every '04 gotta be equipped with CDL as standard, but clearly - this one is not...

Do you believe that someone changed something on this truck (took the CDL?!) and can it be "retrofitted" if I buy it or it's a tough procedure?

The instruction sticker is the CDL one, so maybe someone simply replaced the handle. Perhaps the old one broke?
If possible, see if you can test-drive the truck and try to shift the lever along both axes.

 

As far as I know, all D2s facelift are equipped with this sticker, but it looks like the CDL itself is an option.

I already test drove the truck and the lever is not moving to the left, only forward/backward.

 

There were other years of D2's that had a factory CDL, just not 03

 

My '03 does not have this sticker. The '03 model year is a facelift year.

Where are you ? That Vin decodes to a Td5 engine and manual transmission, they may have totally different options.

Yes, it really is a TD5 with a manual.

However, I really wanted an automatic, but I found only one in not so great condition, and it is also a weird one.
It's VIN is: SALLTGM843A781048
According to some websites it is 2004
to some others 2002
and some thirds 2003
...according to the papers, the car is 2002...
The car is facelifted 2, with the "pocketed headlights"
TD5, Automatic, White Gold, no CDL.
Can someone help with the year of manufacturing?
