Default If Syn Is So Good?

Many of the world's oil change "experts" say it's fine to use synthetic oils but you shouldn't extend your change intervals because syn breaks down just as conventional oil does.

If you're in the camp that believes synthetic doesn't breakdown as fast you could do just a filter change at recommended oil change intervals. Filtering is renewed and you are out of only the cost of a filter/qt. of oil. I changed filters between oil changes on my factory new Trooper using Mobile 1 15w-50. Quick/easy & stealthy apartment parking lot filter changes every 5,000 miles using a zip-lock bag and stayed within Mobile's recommended intervals for complete drain/filter changes.

The Amsoil dual-bypass oil filter system and others similar are designed for use on higher capacity oil systems such as the one on my F-250 7.3 PSD which takes close to 16 qts. Don't have such a system and wouldn't recommend extreme oil change intervals on any vehicle/engine regardless of some mfgs. recommendations/claims because their warranties are worth paper written on minus your attorney fees.

Just sittin' on the fence but there might be a happy medium somewhere out there. Please turn me on when if it's found.

Thanks for everyone's input.
This had turned out a very interesting thread with a lot of constructive info.
Thanks again.
Now, in our particular case, the intention of the bypass IS NOT to extend the intervals between oil changes. Our whole view is regarding "the quality" of the filtration. For what we know the bypass system provides a 2 micron filtration vs standard filters that they average between 10 to 15 microns ( the purolator "big guy is @ 17 microns ).
It's our understanding that the "main wear" occurs at the 5 and below micron rate. So based on that increasing the filtration quality only lead us to believe in a longer life of the motor.
Our whole goal is to extend the life of motor, we are not expecting a millon mile gas motor, but really wonder how long do they last before rebuilding?

why not use a pre-lube system as most of your wear is caused at start-up with dry bearings.
you can trap all the particular matter you want, but if you have metal to metal on start up thats your big damage
