the lights are not matching on the shifter console with the physical position of the shifter, when the vehicle is in Park, it shows as in reverse and will not start. When in reverse, the car goes into gear momentarily then kicks out and will start. When physical in neutral the shift shows neutral and will start. The car will physically go into drive and into gear.
But will not physically go into gear in reverse.

there is a cable and nut. You can loosen the but and slide cable all the way into park tighten nut. It’s easy to get to and you can try adjusting

coincidentally I was just reading this in RAVE because my xyz is acting up. If I'm reading this correctly, the shift lever moves the xyz switch which then sends a signal to the gearbox to select the right gear. It's described as electronic control of gear selection
So reading that it sounds like the answer to the bypass question is definitely a no.
When you say you replaced the switch, do you mean you replaced the xyz switch?
