Default A/c charging

I need to charge my a/c. The reason it is not working is because it was never recharged AFTER the engine was put in.

My question, is it kosher to just charge it up with leak sealer do I NEED to have the system vaccummed first?

THanks,
Steve

If the connections were open for more than a min or so, the residual 134a migrates out, allowing moisture to contaminate the lines.

The vacuum pump will boil the moisture out & evacuate it.

Alot depends on how cold it was when open, humidity levels, etc.

That's your call, I've done it, but that doesn't apply all the time

luck,greg

They sell R134a that will absorb the moisture and is designed for cases such as yours. If you want to go the vacuum route though Harbor Freight has a cheap one that will get the job done for like $20 or something.

JRM you need to have it vacumed before you charge it.You can do it urself with a pump but by the time u buy the pump you prob could have had if profesionally done which is always the best way unless u have the propor equipment and knowhow.any shop that does a/c can do it you also will have to put new compressor oil in.and do not by anymeans put any sealer in the a/c system

Do it the tried and true old way and have it pumped down if you want to make sure you have no long term issues and want the most amount of cold from your system.
