My motor stopped working all together. I followed this tutorial and had it working within an hour. Thanks!

That's fantastic! Thank you for letting us know. Was it frozen, or loose connection? Or full of junk?

There was only 1 leaf in the fan, but when I extracted the motor from the housing a lot of black soot came out. I assume it was so gunked up that the connections could make contact.

I did this service back in October, pretty easy and straight forward (I had done it a year or so earlier without this great write-up)... but nowadays blower is acting up again; shuts down or doesn't work at all, even though system is on, and sometimes in high speed it barely blows air, other times seems to be blowing just fine... but lately it is more the times it does not work, than the ones that does; so I'll be re-servicing it again, hopefully this coming weekend, before wifey starts blowing steam! ...hopefully I'll be able to breathe more life into it!

What really bothers me is the fact that, even though after servicing, it doesn't seem to blow quite strong on High, any ideas what might be preventing that, other than servicing it or getting a new blower?

Thanks! ;-]#

I've got a squeak. Looks like this will be added to the list...

Thanks for taking the time for the tutorial.

The info from SuperSport is always the Bees Knees, it doesn't come much better IMO.

Reviving this great post since I referred a friend to this page for him to fix is blower motor.
I'd like to mention to D2 owners who don't have the engine bay pollen/plenum filter that you can by a 1" thick filter sheet from Lowes or Home Depot. I think I paid $8 for it a couple of years ago. Measure what you need, cut it out and install.

Has anyone replaced the filter attached to the blower motor itself? Presumably the ones used for cabin air recirculation.

Thanks for the write up! My fan was OK most of the time but when it was on full blast I started to hear and feel some vibration. Sure enough, there was some debris inside the fan (not quite as bad as others have posted though!). I cleaned it out, reinstalled it and now it sounds much better all round but especially on full speed. My (pathetic excuse) for a plenum filter was basically gone, I jury-rigged a new one with some DIY filter material- it's still not good but better than nothing.
