Calling anyone with a front winch bumper please.
I'm in the process of designing a bumper. I have a few questions:
Whats the dimension of the winch cut out? (LxW) is it 2x6 or 2x8 for a universal winch bumper?
Second, how far are the holes from the winch cut out? and what sized bolt slips in there?
I'll make another thread in a few hours to show everyone my design.

talking about the fairlead cutout? that is the horizontal cutout. 1 3/4" x 8" should work. you want the square metal bumper cuts to not touch the rope/wire... so, as much clearance as that demands.
or are you talking about the actual winch cradle? if so look at your winch specs. should be there.

Thanks Dusty, oneeeeee more question.
let says the dimensions are 4.5"x10" for the mounting plate for the winch, I'm looking at the summit winch, is 4.5x10" good JUST for where the bolts line up, or will the winch just sit in there, or do I have to have a bigger cut out, like 5(or)6" x 12(or)14"?
I hatttteeee getting dimensions, I wish I could wing it, but it would be expensive to keep getting everything laser cut again and again.

4.5x10 is a universal bolt mounting spec. same on my old warn and on the hf, I have now. the exterior diameter varies with each unit. it may equal, but does not usually, overly, exceed the 4.5 width. the length of the unit can have a larger variance. I am at 21", so 10 does not quite cut it. your winch should mount up, fine, in that bolt cutout... smaller winches go to the 4.5x 6.75 set up.

The winch mounting holes are on a 4.5x10 the actual winch size is bigger than that and varies depending on the winch.
I would look up the dimensions on the winch you want to use.
My 8k smitty built is (LxWxH): 21" x 6.22" x 7.283" for the winch

This should help: http://www.etrailer.com/Merchant2/gr...u31759_800.jpg
9" x 1-3/16" opening with the bottom 7/8" from the mounting plate.

check out page 4 of this pdf.

has all the bolt dimensions, etc.... not the 12k is slightly larger... When I had Tactical Rover make my bumper I had them make the cut out large enough to fit the 12.5k Talon... fits perfectly.

Thanks, that's extremely useful! I now have a little confidence in cutting out a piece in my drawing.
Also remember when you're planning in the framing and bracing around the winch that most of them are not centered, usually its a few inches offset to one side. If you have a 14" long winch and build a 14" on-center home for it, you'll have problems.
