Default Cam Bearings and Lifters - A Cheaper Alternative

Just wanted to let you all know, cam bearings and lifters for a Buick 215 are a perfect fit in our blocks. The bearings are the solid design also; not the split stock design that likes to walk out.

I ordered mine specifically for a 1962 Buick Skylark from Rock Auto. I think lifters are around $65/set and cam bearings are like $35/set.

Also, the $300 cam bearing tool makes a WORLD of difference. My man at O'Reilly ordered it for me and allowed me to use it and return it (as long as I cleaned it up really good). It made the first four bearings a 20 minute job with the old out and the new back in. I couldn't get the far rear one with the engine in the truck, but it looked fine so I left it.

Anyway, there you guys go! That's a lot better prices than the Land Rover specific stuff.

Are you gonna get a performance cam? I was looking at some and was wondering what you went with.

Getting D2 lifters from lrdirect and bearings from Turner is still cheaper, but nice find. Whats the make on the bearings?

Yeah, I went with the Crower Stage 3 and Rhoads lifters. I liked it a lot for the first pull. I've had another oil pressure issue pop up, but not due to I'll fitment of any of the parts. Actually, I now think I might've nicked the pickup tube o-ring.

Jeff, bearings are Federal Mogul. Made in the USA which I like. Sold under the name Sealed Power, but still say Federal Mogul on the box. Good info on Turner and LRDirect, too.

Here is the stock cam on the left,
and the Crower on the right.
I'll post the Crower spec sheet later, but you can see the difference in the duration of the two.

I highly recommend the Crower cam. I'm getting 15.1 mpg now! Noticeable increase in power.

Perfectly smooth idle. No lope. No issues.

The Crower cam is superior to the stock cam that leaves power and mpg on the table.

It's just a better part.

You are lucky. That last cam bearing was the only one that had bronze showing through on mine.

*also, even with my motor out, I had to change to a smaller head on that cam puller tool to get out that last rear cam bearing. The expandable head that worked on the other 4 cam bearings was too large to fit in the last rear cam bearing.

Oh man, that sucks. I was pretty glad about it when I saw mine. Hopefully she'll last a while longer when I actually get to tear back into it to fix the oil issue.
