Yes the DII mirror only shows compass headings but if you press the EXT button on the HVAC it will display the outside temp for 30? secs.

I have a TomTom and a unbelievable sense of direction, seriously, blindfold me, spin me around 3 times and I can tell you which way is north.

But I like the looks of that type of mirror and I also like to know if the roads have a good chance of icing over, black ice is very hard to see if you dont know what you are looking for.
I drove truck for 15 years so I know a thing or two about how to spot black ice, where it likes to hide and how to tell if the air temp is dropping by the icing of the fronts of your outside mirrors.

Bottom line, I want one of these mirrors, always have and I will have one soon.

Just thought that maybe because I kinda helped some of you guys once or twice maybe I could get alittle help too, but I found out what I needed to know by doing 2 hours of research online last night.

SWEET...I didn't know you could do that. I will try it out and let you know. Mine does display a "temp" mode when I start the truck, but it always displays "100" and then converts to the compass a few seconds after the truck is started.

I'm glad you were able to figure it out...does this mean no more "Dear Spike Advice" for not helping you? I don't know if I can trust Sloppyjoe J/K

I don't trust Sloppy as far as I can push him out of bed.

Bought my mirror today, got it off of Craig's List for $100.
Next stop is the glass shop.

You know I just got a new job for a company that installs cameras and computers and crap in cop cars, and I have one of the mirrors we use, has auto dim and a little 2 or 3" screen built in, I kinda want to install it in my Disco since my auto dim is kaput as well and I think the stock mirror hangs a little too low. I wonder what I could hook up to the screen... Maybe I need a laptop mount in there too...

Hey Spike...you are correct on pushing the EXT button on the HVAC to display outside temp...but it displays the temp on the display, not the mirror.

Is that what you meant?

Yes that is what I meant.
Also if your HVAC is in "C" you can change it to "F".
Turn the ignition on.
With the climate control turned on, push and hold the recirculation button in. While holding the button in, push and hold the off button in for 3 seconds or until you hear a beep.

This question is finally answered.
LR uses their own mirror mount, NOT a cam mount NOT a wedge mount but a LR mount.
I could not get my mirror installed today because the mirror has a wedge mount and not a LR mount.
So I am miffed.
I have a e-mail sent out to the mirror manufacture, Johnson Controls right here in West Michigan, to see about a swap.
The guys at the glass shop said they would do it no problem.
So we will see.
I am going to be really pissed off if I cannot use this mirror.

The new windshield...$637.43.

Hey Spike how about that mirror mount... I know I know bringing a dead thread back... But figured this might be helpful for others like me that end up here from searching.

I picked up a Gentex mirror from Amazon, not realizing it didn't come with the adapter that carid and other places charge you for and ship with it.. In my digging for some kind of adapter I found this VW/Audi adapter. We'll see in a few days if it works out.
