Default Camel style "haul out" bumper pins

Terrafirma catalog has some cool looking bumper attachment pins for cable attachments. Can the stock bumper be modified to use these with the proper backing plates etc? I am never overroading by myself and cant justify a winch and bumper set up that is built to withstand the riggers o Africa. I do want to be safe though and add some attachment points front and rear. The quality and robust design of these look awesome. Anyone used them?

Something like this?
Rovers North, Classic Land Rover Parts - TOW JAW ASSM 7,700 LB CAMEL TROPHY STYLE, RNF408, TJA3500

These would not work on your plastic bumper. You would need front and rear steel bumpers to make these work.

There are a few versions, but all follow that design style. Obviously the plastic OEM bumper wont work - however it seems possible that a hidden backing plate can be welded up for support and mounting of the unit - and then trim and modify plastic bumper cover to hide. Just allowing the quick pin and bracket to be visible?

Such as welding it to a frame horn? I suppose it could be done.

Seems a bit steep for a tow hook. I know they look cool, but $84? Since you need to build something off the frame to mount this, you would be better off just welding or bolting a 1/2 inch plate to the frame that sticks out through the bumper and drilling a hole in it for a 3/4 shackle.

Yes. Welding a plate to add a shackle or these pins adds piece of mind - without spending 1200 bucks on a winch bumper that I will hardly ever use. I am certain there are plenty of shops that could do a hell of a job on custom mounts for less money than a new winch bumper.

Great link and interesting article on the dual battery/inverter set up. Although there was no mention if this guy had to update or change his alternator to support a three battery set up. 2 in the front and one in the rear for his freezer.

No need to change the alt no matter how many batteries you have, its just going to take longer to charge all of them if you ran them all flat.

Back to your original question, Jate rings are your best bet, one in front, one on the rear opposite side of front.
They MUST go through the frame.
