Default Camshaft replacment

My parts showed up:

Camshaft, rocker arms, rocker shafts, hydraulic tappets, and the push rods are on the way.

I should note I'm just replacing these parts because I want to. I have a slight cold start tick I think this will fix, 150k miles normal wear and tear. Otherwise no issue at all with the engine.

I have to travel next week for work so I won't be able to dive into this project until the weekend. Any final words of advice? Mike, I have the pre-load link memorized and my micro meter ready.

I noticed my current valley gasket has RTV on it, I don't plan on using any, should I? Since I have to take the radiator out, is a simple flow test from top to bottom sufficient to check for any blockage/build up? I don't suspect any as my temps stay in the 180's pretty consistently. Anything else I should know before I get in there? Thanks guys.

Some put a smear of RTV around the water channels in the gasket and some don't. The Cannibal web site talks about the RTV. I did it on mine, buit I am certainly no example of what to do.

Assembly lube on hand. Rubber bands large enough to snug two lifters together.

Turn AC condenser but don't remove.

If lifters won't come up due to mushroom factor they should go out the bottom.

New valve cover gaskets if not recent. The little metal rings in the valve covers love to fall into engine.

Cold tick/knock at start up, good chance you have a broken water pump. You should also replace the timing chain set and your oil pump since you are already into the engine.

I just replaced the timing chain, oil pump, and water pump gasket when I did the main and rod bearings. That fixed the lower end knock. This upper "tick" is present at start up and beyond, which means its not a sleeve.

Can you give us details about the cam and lifters - manufacturer, price, etc?

Sure thing. I did a lot of homework on this. Although Disco Mike says absolutely DO NOT buy "All Makes" parts, I did just that. I found a ton of happy customers and also see they are a huge supplier of parts in the UK. I'm not sure why Mike is so against them but several people have chimed in here with zero complaints about the parts. And when you see the price, it's just too damn good. I paid $379 for everything shipped, from the UK. No reseller in the states can even come close to that price for just the camshaft and lifters only. Here's the breakdown:

8 X 602153G - Rocker Arm LH - USD 49.52 - 0.432 kg
8 X 602154G - - Rocker Arm RH - USD 49.52 - 0.432 kg
2 X 611659L - Rocker Shaft Assy - USD 36.00 - 1.19 kg
1 X ERR3720 - Camshaft - USD 81.61 - 2.94 kg
16 X ERC4949 - Tappets - USD 83.52 - 1.54 kg
16 x 603378 - Push Rods - USD 28.27 - 3.68 kg

Total Parts: $328.44

Shipping was $49.00 and I received my parts 7 days after I ordered. I emailed them a few times too and the sales guys were very knowledgeable and fast to get back to me. No complaints so far!

It's definitely hard to argue with that price. I've seen cams cost that much alone.

Worth a try!

Whoa, that's a smokin' deal on those parts!

Good luck with the build!
