If your knocking, I would imagine the damage has been done already if it wasn't before. If your running 10w40 and you have clogged lifters (if it was knocking before your incident) that could be the source of your knock.

Quite frankly, I'm not sure I'm using the term knocking properly. I've watched a bunch of youtubes on it and mine is very very very faint compared to what I'm hearing and by the time I got to my destination I couldn't hear it at all.

If I have a faint knock is there anything preventative that can be done to prevent it from getting worse?

Edit: After searching knocks, I'm going t o look into this tomorrow but don't think we should dive into it here without more info.

"Add those to the one I did on the road today and that's 3 oil changes in 500 miles including a flush."

way too much flush way to soon together, all that stuff does is break down oil/sludge it does not care if it new oil or old oil.

I would suggest 15 40 rotella and a new filter and stop flushing the engine.

a.) only one of the batches of oil had flush in it, and the last one was in an emergency to get the stop leak out of the engine. The first one was just because I had no idea how long that oil had been in there and I thought fresh oil would help the flush. Flushed it and put the second batch of oil right in.

b.) another oil change seems like it is directly in conflict with the first half of your comment.

c.) I've avoided 15w-40 because this truck resides in one of the five coldest cities in the continental united states. I thought 10w-40 was too thick as well and my plan was to go lighter before winter time.

You might want to drop the oil pan and check your pickup tube/screen. You could have loosened a lot of crap and it is stuck in the screen that was starving your engine of oil. But definitely get you an aftermarket oil pressure gauge. Preferably one with a warning buzzer that will allow you to set the minimum oil pressure.

the blue devil had nothing to do with it, it is design to make seasl swell, thus stopping the leak. Does not thin in any way.
engine flush on the other thins down your oil to the point that it will dissolved sludge, if you dumped one of those quart cans in in, forget about it. that stuff will knock everything free and it will be floating around in your oil pan until the sump blocks up.
I live in NE not exactly warn all year, but i never run 10wt and my truck would laugh at 5wt oil.

I think my next step (as advised above and come to on my own) is to drop the oil pan and take a look. I have a feeling that the pan gasket is a source of (one of) the leaks anyway so I may be able to kill two birds with one stone.

I hear everybody all over this board recommending Rotella 15w-40 (although one person in this thread advised against.) Can somebody explain what makes the Rotella so special?

Thanks

I followed the flush directions per the can. I added the flush to a cold block (ensuring there was a safe amount of oil in the engine including the flush), turned it on and idled for 5 minutes, immediately drained and changed filters. The Blue Devil went in upon refill and stayed in per the directions.

I may not be bright, but I sure can follow directions
