Default Can Rocker Arms have Shoes?

Disassembly of 1997 Disco engine. Each rocker appears to have a soft "shoe" on the valve side. The shoes appear to be removable by punching the hole in the top...although I haven't tried. Could this be a shim installed by machine shop?

thoughts please....what are these shoes?

Regards
Dave

Those are hardened buttons, if they look good (that one does), I'd leave them alone.

There's also "cap" on the pushrod side, sometimes are known to come loose or off, again if yours look good, let the "sleeping dog" lie.

Make certain the "notch" in the rocker shaft is "up" on both b/4 re-assembly. (I think driver's faces rear, pass side faces front)

Nice clean rockers.
