can a throttle body coolant leak
#11
Fairly normal exhaust on a very wet day at 9 deg C. My Disco has not been started in 9 days. I have a small head gasket issue - overpressure after 30 + minutes of driving 1500 to 2400 rpm with no overheat.
If your smoke is thicker than that in warm er temps you are getting significant coolant into the system.

@Stephen Novak I suppose so but you could try this
Pull the intake hose from the throttle body and take a look
This what I found : it is pretty much a head gasket leak - not that I am surprised that is what is commonly called milkshake. My filler cap is fine.
Symptoms - I had
Although temps are normal I was losing coolant after driving for several hours.
About 1/2 inch loss after 2 or so hours of driving
Coolant loss appears to from the expansion bottle overflow line.
I verified this a bottle attached to the overflow line to capture any coolant from there.
Status
System holds pressure
While driving temps between 188 and 194 - 1600 to 2300 rpm 20 to 55 Mph
Idle at traffic light 197 to 201 depending on how much stop and go drops as soon as rpm increases
Will reach 201 after highway run at traffic light drops immediately once moving
Hoses remain soft at 194 -197 degs
System has pressure in the morning normal pfft noise
No air at bleed screw
Engine Warm up appears to be normal not excessively fast
No misfires or codes
No excessive smoke of tail pipe

OK I am going to do an engine swap but can't do it for a month and am looking to try something while I wait.
What do you guys think?
I want to block the coolant to the heater and run some stop leak for head gaskets?
A local mechanic claims it would be a temp solution that might last a year ?
I only need a month.
Suggestions, warnings, advise!
I'm changing the radiator also.

@Stephen Novak I feel your pain, but if you are going to try a stop leak product ( I was not willing to) :
With luck you will get a month or two at least, worse case it just your time.
- Bypass the heater core this is not optional no matter what the bottle or mechanic says
- Leave your existing rad in place - Put the new one in after the stop leak
- Flush the cooling system 1st with something like prestone cooling system flush
- Dump that and fill with water
- Bypass the thermostat all the decent stop leaks require it
- READ THE DIRECTIONS BEFORE YOU START THEN READ THEM AGAIN
With luck you will get a month or two at least, worse case it just your time.

@Stephen Novak Look up inline thermostat mod the bypass it is not really that hard.
