I personally do not trust Dex one bit. Too many stories about nasty things it's done. The green stuff has been around for decades, and is tried and true. So I stick with it

So I can safely say- think twice about the Dexcool, use just about any "Aluminum safe" coolant (not the $5 a gallon O'Rielly green stuff then) flush every two years, and don't bother with the $40 per gallon stuff offered by the good folks at my local LR dealership...
Can anyone suggest a brand they use the most?

If you're going to flush it every two years, then there is nothing wrong with the $5 a gallon green stuff. SO LONG AS IT'S CHANGED.

Is there even a such thing as a coolant that is not aluminum safe these days?

I can't imagine companies would waste their time making coolant that's not aluminum safe, except for maybe old classics or something.

Default you will never get everyone to agree..

you will never get everyone to agree...i am though dumping dex and going blue...i mean $40.00 every two years...that nothing...my truck eats far more $$$$ in everything else...check out my throttle body heater...

so info though:

Glysantin G 05 Hybrid coolant, nitrite-containing
Glysantin G 30 OAT coolant
Glysantin G 33 OAT coolant with high reserve alkalinity
Glysantin G 34 OAT coolant
Glysantin G 48 Hybrid coolant, nitrite-free
Glysantin G 70 OAT coolant, phosphate-containing

so basically, G48 is nitrate free G05, and both are hybrid organic acid coolants that dont contain 2-ethylhexanoic acid

but wait, theres more!

G05 has a PH of about 6.5
G05 has reserve alkalinity of 17 ml
G05 has a boiling point of about 160C

G48 has a PH of about 7.2
G48 has reserve alkalinity of 14ml
G48 has a boiling point of about 165C

they both spec out temp wise as follows:
Antifreze/Water Frost protection temp
12% / 88% -5C
25% / 75% -12C
66% / 67% -18C
50% / 50% -38C
60% / 40% -62C

G05 is slightly acidic, while G48 is very slightly basic.

both provide 3 years protection, and meet ASTM D3306 and BS 6580:1992 standards.

both are free of amines and phosphates.

both contain silicates.

nitrate containing G05 is NOT BMW approved.

I can get Zerex G05 for $10ish a gallon at napa 5 minutes from my house so it wins. I don't think there is any practical difference between pink, blue, yellow etc HOATs. I think changing away from Dex and putting in a new throttle body heater plate can solve many an over heating problem.
