Default Can you interpret codes for me?

Hey guys I am some what new to the forum. I never really registered being that most problems were common, I just read a thread and figured it out, then repaired My Disco myself (Spark Plugs, Oil, valve Covers, Coolant, ETC). Well I've had my disco for about 6 years. Its an 01 SE. I was about to trade it in for the clunkers program, then I decided just to give another chance. I've had everything from the Three Amigos to loose valve cover screws to headlinder falling. I felt like every issue that could happen to the Disco has happened. I have spent thousands on maintanence and repair. So I guess after all this I finally took it to a "real" mechanic and a self proclaimed british car specialist. He fixed the three amigos (I drove with the "3" on for about two years)and he said he replaced all that the engine was coding. The mech said "Turns out it was a mass air flow sensor and O2 sensor that was coding". But I took it to get inspected and the inspector said that the engine was still coding, so I failed inspection. I took it back to the mech and he said " you got to drive it for 60 miles to clear the codes". I drove it for 100, went back to the mech and he said all is well. Now I go back to get it inspected but I asked my wife to take it in this time and dress up all pretty hoping to woo the inspector just in case it fails. Inspector said , "hey you got the same codes coming up, your mech is not telling you the truth." The Rover still passed thanks to her (She is Hot!). So we never took the Disco back to the mech. Instead the Disco went North East about 1300 miles. It drove great, The 3 amigos never came back on, but the service engine light came back on. I took it to AutoZone and this is what they came up with. If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it. Thank You

Here are the codes that AutoZone gave me:

P0103
P0441
P1590
P0174
P0171
P1884
P1668

First, post a pic of your "hot" wife.....

j/k

Ok well whenever you get codes its best to look up their meanings and then interpret what your DII is telling you by looking at the overall picture. Exhaust leak can trigger an O2 Sensor code and make you think you need to replace the O2 sensor when in fact you just need new exhaust gasket to take care of that leak.

Now for your codes, go to http://www.iequus.com/ so you yourself know what each one is. Re-post with the codes and their meanings and the experts will interpret the "overall" condition.

Plus we need more vehicle service history.

1. What grade fuel you running
2. Last time plugs and wires were replaced
3. What brand name wires and plugs
4. How frequent you have been with oil changes
5. Etc....

1. What grade fuel you running
Honestly until about about two months ago when I read the importance of running high octane, 87 grade was all we ever used.
2. Last time plugs and wires were replaced.
Two months ago did it myself. Loosen up some of the vaccumm pipes. removed them one by one.
3. What brand name wires and plugs.
Plugs- champion platinum kind- paid about $60.
Wires- uh..... Autozone brand....
4. How frequent you have been with oil changes.
Not very, I changed it when the honda needed changing, Not good I know..
5. Etc....
The engine leaked oil for a good two years from around the valve cover gasket. If I would of read the forum closer, I would of known that all I had to do was tighten the two bolts down and check them every month. I thought there was no way the bolts could be loose. They in fact were. So imagine all that leaked oil may have caused some damage to the sensors and who knows what.
I just got of the phone with the mech, he says all the codes may relate to the MAF sensor. " The ones we have been using for replacing have had some issues".

103 say your MAF is reading to high which will also cause the 1884, the 174 and the 171, so replace it first.
Your ABS codes will come back and is still showing up as the 1590 , Rough Road/ABS fault.
441 is an incorrect Purge flow from the EVAP system.
So, replace the MAF, then deal with your brakes, have they been squeaking sometimes?

Yes the brakes have been squeaky. I replaced the front pads with OEM pads from roverconnection about 9 months ago. Most of the driving hass been city driving. But I have not been driving the Disco, a friend has and he may of had a heavy foot. You think it's time for new ones?

I almost forgot. Does having a K&N filter effect the performance of the MAF?

K&N filters require oil on the filter to work. The oil can make its way to the MAF and most likely has destroyed it.

I was able to run a K&N for about 2 years and it just recently took out my MAF. So in the long run it is cheaper to buy the factory filter. Also there wasn't a noticeable difference in power when I switched back to the paper filter. With all that said does anyone want to buy a K&N filter. I have one for sale lol.

Right there is your problem.
Go to Advance Auto and buy a Purolator air filter, $12, then replace your MAF.
Then contact K&N and see if they will honor their warranty, they claim they will pay for any repairs that are needed due to using their product.
Good luck with that.
When your random mis fires start you will need to dump those cheap @ss AutoZone plug wires and get some good ones.
