Can you mount backup sensors in a D2 bumper not originally equipped with them?
My daughter backed her car into my son's '04 D2 HSE, damaging the bumper.
She is buying him a new bumper junkyard bumper and will help him install it.
My son's D2 has backup sensors.
The junkyard bumper she has found (also from an '04 D2? It has fat roof rails) does not have sensors.
I know the sensors have a little bezel around them but I don't know if that is molded into the bumper or into the sensor (the vehicle is with my son back in college so I can't do a visual inspection).
Does anyone know whether the sensors can be mounted on a bumper that didn't originally come with them by simply drilling it out to accept the sensors?

Try using a step drill bit in the new bumper to make a hole sized to the sensors.
The Facelift D2's '03 & '04 had the parking sensor option.
I think it has to be manually turn it on and there is only an audible sound when it's activated.

I have factory backup sensors on my 04 D2. Great feature to have and reliable. They turn on automatically when you shift into reverse gear; but can be temporary disabled by pressing the backup sensor button on the bezel cluster panel. My truck has 224092 in the clock and the backup sensors still work great.
D2 had a decent list of optional upgrades. Backup sensors. Rear self leveling air suspension. 7 passenger variant. Overhead DVD entertainment system with fold down display, for second and third row passengers. Overhead climate controls for 2nd/3rd row passengers. 3rd row entertainment system remote controller. A primitive GPS system above the heater controls. Active Corning enhancement system for improved stability while going around corners. Cold climate package with heated front seats and heated windshield. Heated power mirrors. Bose sound system. Engine block heater kit. Even a cargo van trim with paneled rear windows. Etc.
Discovery 2 was truly a sophisticated machine for it's time yet still easy to work on and great offroad. From 1999-2004 it was class leading in some respects and very competitive in others.
I believe you need to fit a special fuse under the hood as well as in the fuse box below the steering wheel plus source a rear bumper with the backup sensors and wiring installed. Probably plug and play. Good luck.
