Default Can you utilize factory bumper for a winch?

I would like to add a winch using the factory bumper. Does anyone make a mounting kit that utilizes the factory bumper? Has this been done before? I can fab up my own mounting hardware just dont want to reinvent the wheel here if its commercially available or if some one has done this before and has plans. Anyone see any inherit problems with this approach vs using an after market bumper?

You can make a special mount in between the frame rails, but you can't use the factory plastic one/brush bar.

I would recommend getting a steel bumper already set up for a winch. The stock one sucks and I would not want to try and use it as a winching platform IMO

When i get one I was going to follow this

There are disadvantages to this related to mounting it so low. You'll be dragging it through more water/mud than if you had it mounted it at bumper level. Also, if you get stuck in deep stuff you may have to dig out the front area to access it; you can sort of get around this by pulling some lead out and fastening the clip to a higher area on the car.

Doesn't the stock bumper have some sort of impact sensors for the air bags? I would think too much modifying would mess with the mechanism.

D.A.P. had a hidden winch mount for years not sure if they still carry it. The bumper doesn't have sensors n in it.

The impact sensors are mounted on the frame of the truck, but there are crush cans between the bumper and the frame. The winch mount goes to the frame behind the cans so that they can still function as they are supposed to, which is to allow for more time between impact with an object and the transmission of the into the frame/passenger compartment of the vehicle. This additonal fraction of a second allows the airbags to fully inflate before the passengers are in motion.

@Mike Koch, it's not like the older vehicles, there are no sensors to worry about.
